Music Studio Player v0.6
------------------------
(c)1987 Advanced Software
This program is distributed as shareware. If you find it of
value, send your payment in the amount of $10. or more to
Advanced at the address below. You may freely distribute
MSPLAY, but please do so in its original ARCed form with
this readme file.
MSPLAY has been extensively tested with many MS files, and
the current version is (as far as I know) bug-free. If you
find any problems, please report them to me here via GE Mail
so that I can get them corrected as soon as possible. Also,
let me know of any enhancements you would like to see in
MSPLAY. The file format information was extracted from a
short document found on the Hybrid Arts BBS by a generous
hacker by the name of Robert Lansdale. Much of the credit
for this program therefore goes to him.
This version includes a piano keyboard display that plays the
notes as the song plays. When run from low-res, the keys
will display in the correct instrument color. Med-res and
monochrome modes will display all instruments in the same
color (red in med-res and dithered in monochrome).
The program is fairly straightforward, simply select the file
to play from the GEM Item Selector and it will load and play
automatically. Key commands available are as follows: F1
will play all notes through MIDI channel 1, useful if your
synth is in poly mode and the song expects it to be in
multi-timbre mode. F2 switches back to multi-channel mode
(the default). F10 will restart the song from the beginning.
Holding down the SHIFT key will play the song at four times
normal speed. Any other key will abort the song. If you
hold down the Control key while selecting a file, it will
load and play in single-channel mode.
The program accepts Music Studio files written on the ST or
Amiga, the latter defaults to single-channel mode since most
Amiga files are set up for the Amiga's internal sound, not
MIDI. File extenders must be either .SNG for ST MS files, or
.SNA for Amiga MS files.
I intend on including many enhancements in future versions of
MSPLAY, including a jukebox mode, and midi parameter editting
capability. If you'd like to see these and other
enhancements, please help support the author!
